About Boston Dynamics:
Boston Dynamics is a global leader in robotics innovation, renowned for developing highly advanced, dynamic robots that excel in mobility, dexterity, and intelligence. Our cutting-edge robots, including the iconic Atlas, Spot, and Stretch, are pushing the boundaries of automation and redefining how machines interact with the world. At Boston Dynamics, we blend advanced mechanical design, state-of-the-art control systems, and AI-driven perception to create robots capable of performing in unstructured, real-world environments.
We are looking for a talented Senior Staff Manufacturing Test Engineer to support the Atlas program, helping to transform groundbreaking research prototypes into reliable, scalable systems for manufacturing and field deployment.
About the Role:
As a Senior Staff Manufacturing Test Engineer for the Atlas program, you will lead the development of the test systems that are used in the manufacture of our Robotics Systems. You will document, design, and deploy test equipment, software, and procedures for supplier production testing, in-house production testing, and system level testing. With a focus on factory acceptance test systems, you will interact with the hardware design, electrical, software, manufacturing, test, and quality engineering teams to ensure the appropriate test coverage and product performance for the top level robot assembly and subassemblies made for our robotics systems.
Responsibilities:
Act as a technical liaison to manufacturing and production teams and provide test engineering support to drive continuous improvement for test method/machine related issues.
Provide design for test (DFT) recommendations for test coverage, fault isolation capability, and failure trends.
Document test procedures, fixtures, configurations, and best practices.
Deliver turnkey test solutions for electromechanical parts and assemblies of new robots or sustaining tests for existing robots.
Provide project management and design support for outsourced test development.
Analyze test results and provide feedback to improve product quality and testing processes.
Work with quality and process engineering teams to support failure analysis of test failures to drive root cause corrective actions.
Support station duplication, maintenance, and deployments for repair and service teams.
Train both internal and external manufacturing in the use and support of production test equipment, test programs, and debug processes.
Support internal factory and services teams implementing new and supporting existing test solutions.
Mentor other team engineers and technicians.
Qualifications:
BS or MS in Robotics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 6+ years of relevant experience.
Strong understanding of electromechanical and software fundamentals.
Solid working knowledge of basic electrical equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
Proven experience in directing resources for efficient execution of test systems or laboratory operations.
Test software development using programming languages such as Python or C++.
Able to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings and apply fundamental knowledge to analyze designs.
Comfortable with analog and digital test and debug techniques for medium to high complexity systems.
Self-motivated and able to work in an ambiguous environment with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing moderate complexity electro-mechanical structures to be used in a production or customer-facing environment in CAD (Catia, NX, Solidworks, etc.)
Experience in robotics, aerospace, precision actuators, or high-performance electromechanical systems.
Experience with PLM systems such as Arena or Enovia for revision control and documentation management.
Experience with MES platforms such as Tulip for test workflows
Experience working with external suppliers, contract manufacturers, or design firms on tooling and test requirements.
Background supporting research-to-product transitions where designs and processes evolve rapidly.
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software using Altium or equivalent.
Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
Experience with root cause analysis supported by data analytics.
