Role Overview

We are looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to join our Devops & Service Reliability team.

This role requires deep technical expertise, operational ownership, and the ability to provide guidance across teams. The person in this role will operate with high autonomy, influencing design decisions, improving operational excellence, and promoting best practices in GitOps, CI/CD, automation, and observability.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Application & Service Ownership

• Own application and service operations for Amadeus Core Services end-to-end.
• Manage the full application stack: OS, databases, data stores, middleware, networking (vNW), and application layers according to agreed SLAs.
• Take technical ownership of cloud-native and lift & shift workloads running on OpenShift and Azure.
• Drive lifecycle improvements across deployment, operations, monitoring, and recovery.
• Provide guidance and share expertise with other team members to promote consistent engineering standards.

GitOps, Automation & CI/CD

• Design and enhance GitOps workflows using ArgoCD with fully declarative deployments.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git-based automation) with embedded security, quality, and performance controls.
• Automate repetitive operational tasks using Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
• Provision and manage cloud infrastructure as code using Terraform and Terragrunt.
• Drive Service Automation initiatives across change, release, and testing processes.

Observability & Operational Reliability

• Design and maintain observability frameworks using Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and Azure Monitor.
• Improve signal-to-noise ratio in alerting systems.
• Perform deep-dive investigations across OpenShift clusters, Azure components, CI/CD pipelines, and application stacks.
• Lead root cause analysis efforts and implement preventive measures to improve resilience.

Cloud Optimization & FinOps

• Optimize Azure environments through right-sizing, scaling strategies, and workload tuning.
• Identify inefficiencies in infrastructure, CI/CD runtimes, and cluster operations.
• Contribute to FinOps initiatives by improving cost transparency and usage efficiency.

Skills & Competencies
