Position Description:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Software Developer to join a highly collaborative team. The team supports a variety of areas with a focus on building scalable, secure, and efficient software solutions in a dynamic DevOps environment.

This role emphasizes backend development while also offering opportunities to engage in full-stack tasks, systems integration, and prototype development. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, data analysts, and other developers to deliver tailored solutions in support of fast-paced objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs in support of tools and infrastructure.
  • Migrate and modernize legacy applications from Java to Python.
  • Integrate new data sources, analytics, and monitoring tools into existing infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement technical solutions that address requirements.
  • Provide mentorship to junior developers and share best practices across the team.
  • Participate in DevOps workflows including CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and container orchestration.
  • Support efforts to identify and implement process improvements, performance optimizations, and system hardening.
  • Provide secondary support to a data science team as needed.

Required Experience:

  • Backend development with Java and Python
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
  • Linux systems administration (CentOS, Red Hat)
  • Containerization technologies: Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher
  • Familiarity with GitLab, Jira, and version control workflows
  • Systems integration and troubleshooting in complex environments

Desirable Skills:

  • Interfacing with RESTful services
  • JavaScript, Bash scripting
  • Jenkins for CI/CD
  • Experience with Airflow, Splunk, or other data platforms
  • Exposure to Data Science and Machine Learning concepts and tooling

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must hold an active clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience

  • This position involves sedentary work with physical requirements expected for at least 50% of the time. Essential functions include prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and talking.
