Job Title: Senior Akamai Engineer.
Location: Remote (U.S.).
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099).

About the Opportunity.

ZipStaff is seeking a Senior Akamai Engineer to own application onboarding and edge security at a major pharmacy and healthcare organization.

You will independently configure Akamai, deploy WAF and origin lockdown, and drive applications through production cutover. This is not a coordinator role and not a junior portal seat.

What You’ll Do:

  • Independently configure Property Manager, CDN onboarding, WAF policies, edge security, and origin protection.
  • Implement origin lockdown so backends are not reachable directly from the internet.
  • Configure and validate WAF, Bot Manager, API protection, TLS, and traffic routing.
  • Drive onboarding through production deployment, cutover, validation, and handoff.
  • Troubleshoot Akamai, DNS, TLS, networking, and connectivity issues during cutover.
  • Assess exposed origins and reduce attack surface.
  • Coordinate releases, rollback, and stabilization with application, networking, F5, DNS, and security teams.
  • Guide application teams on onboarding patterns and origin protection.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years hands-on Akamai engineering, configuring services directly in the portal.
  • 5+ years in Application Security, Network Security, or internet-facing application engineering.
  • Akamai Property Manager, CDN onboarding, and production deployment processes.
  • WAF configuration and policy management
  • Origin lockdown implementation.
  • TLS/SSL certificate implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, reverse proxy, load balancing, and network troubleshooting.
  • Application security fundamentals, OWASP Top 10, API security, and secure SDLC.
  • AWS or GCP, cloud networking, and Kubernetes fundamentals.
  • Production support, release coordination, change management, and rollback planning.
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card only. No sponsorship.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leading enterprise-scale Akamai onboarding.
  • Migration from Imperva, F5, or another edge platform to Akamai.
  • Akamai Application & API Protector (AAP), Bot Manager, or Edge DNS.
  • Healthcare or another regulated industry.
  • Python, Terraform, or CI/CD.
  • F5 LTM administration.
