The Impact You Will Have in This Role
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and modernizing software applications that support DTCC’s Institutional Trade Processing (ITP) business. This is a highly technical, hands‑on position focused on delivering scalable, high‑performance, and cloud‑ready solutions that power identity, entitlement, and organization reference data across multiple ITP products and the DTCC Portal.
You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle—from design and development through deployment and optimization—while providing strong technical leadership and guidance to development teams. A key focus of this role will be supporting DTCC’s cloud and database modernization initiatives, including migrating business logic from database stored procedures into Java‑based services and improving API performance and scalability.
This role partners closely with team leads, product owners, and engineering leadership to deliver high‑quality solutions aligned to business priorities and long‑term technology strategy.
Your Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain high‑quality, scalable, and high‑performance software applications.
- Translate business and functional requirements into well‑designed, maintainable technical solutions.
- Lead hands‑on development using Java/J2EE, Spring, and Spring Boot within a microservices‑based architecture.
- Design and build frameworks that promote modularity, isolation, extensibility, and reuse.
- Modernize applications by converting complex business logic from database stored procedures into Java‑based services.
- Build, optimize, and support REST and SOAP APIs with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Participate in frequent deployments and support continuous delivery in a fast‑paced environment.
- Conduct and participate in thorough code reviews to promote strong engineering standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve production issues, manage expectations, and deliver urgent fixes when required.
- Partner with leadership to assess scope, provide effort estimates, and support delivery planning.
- Contribute to technology standards, best practices, and technical decision‑making across the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 6-8+ years of experience in backend and database‑driven application development.
Talent Needed for Success
- Expert‑level, hands‑on experience with Java/J2EE and modern backend development practices.
- Strong experience with Spring / Spring Boot, RESTful services, and microservices architectures.
- Working knowledge of Angular or React for front‑end integration.
- Strong experience with relational databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Apache Kafka or Confluent Kafka, including APIs and tooling (Kafka Connect, KStreams, KSQL).
- Proven ability to write high‑quality, testable code using unit tests and Test‑Driven Development (TDD).
- Experience working in Agile environments with strong collaboration skills.
- A hands‑on engineer who thrives in a fast‑paced, delivery‑focused environment.
- A collaborative team player who communicates clearly and partners effectively with engineers, product owners, and team leads.
- Demonstrates honesty, transparency, accountability, and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Willingness to coach and mentor other engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS cloud services such as S3, SQS, Lambda, and Redshift.
- Hands‑on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, test automation, and build automation.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, CloudBees, Git, and related DevOps platforms.
- Experience supporting large‑scale enterprise systems and cloud migration initiatives.
- Java or AWS certifications (preferred, not required
