Description

Background

This position is established for providing support to the development of the OceanOPS Information System and IT Services (www.ocean-ops.org). 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Director, Department of Earth System Data and Prediction the general supervision of the Director, WIGOS Division and the direct supervision of the OceanOPS Manager, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 

 

  1. Contribute to the development and maintenance of OceanOPS web applications and dashboards, with a focus on frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, Flutter); 
  2. Support the integration of backend APIs into userfacing dashboards, ensuring responsiveness, accessibility, and good user experience; 
  3. Assist in writing technical specifications and documentation for frontend components;
  4. Participate in testing, validation, and versioning of web applications; 
  5. Collaborate closely with backend developers to ensure smooth integration of services; 
  6. Engage in continuous learning to gradually acquire backend skills (Java, Python, APIs, automated scripts) with the aim of evolving toward a full-stack developer role;
  7. Integrate appropriate security requirements to reinforce protection of OceanOPS system and data Incumbent will collaborate closely with OceanOPS IT team developers and international partners developers through Agile methodology.

 

 

Required Skills and Experience

 

Education: 

Completion of secondary education is required. Bachelor's or master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field is an advantage.

 

Experience:

A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in web application development with exposure to modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, or similar). Professional experience combined with relevant internship experience maybe accepted.

 

Other Requirements: 

This post is open only for citizens and permanent residents of France.

 

YOUR PROFILE 

-Good knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and interest in mobile frameworks (Flutter). 

-Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and responsive design. 

-Basic understanding of APIs, SQL/databases, and versioning tools (Git). 

-Interest in GIS mapping services and interactive data visualizations. 

-Interest in statistical chart design and user interface ergonomics. 

-Interest in learning backend development (Java, Python, APIs). 

-Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in an international, multicultural team in Brest (Ifremer) and remote partners

 

Languages: 

Good knowledge of English (both oral and written). 

Knowledge of French is desirable. (as OceanOPS is in France).

Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.

Salary and Allowances 

The position is funded from extra-budgetary funding.

Annual net base salary on initial appointment and after deduction for staff assessment is: EUR 39422

Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
