About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated, full-time Infrastructure Operations Engineer I to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in monitoring and managing our clients' highly distributed and complex server environments.
This position requires residency in the Salinas area within 60 miles, with up to 50% travel expected within the region.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Perform routine and emergent site visits to ZAG’s Salinas area clients as required to support client IT Operations and project execution.
- Travel to the ZAG Office in Salinas to assist with PC builds, when required.
- Perform on site support visits (as required) for San Jose based clients if the primary engineer is unavailable (due to PTO or emergency).
- Ensuring maximum possible service availability and performance for all network and server infrastructure equipment.
- Technical diagnosis of complex and diverse technical environments.
- Providing onsite support to various clients when necessary.
- Using a strong understanding of support tools and techniques, determine the root cause of issues and plan and implement the appropriate solution.
- Analyze and optimize IT Infrastructure performance.
- Demonstrate leadership in achieving results, especially when problems or projects have unexpected delays.
- Demonstrate creativity and ingenuity to design improvements in implementation, maintenance and/or support of customers’ technical environments.
- Perform routine preventative and reactive tasks related to server health, creating, reviewing, and updating documentation as needed, and providing clear communication to stakeholders throughout the organization.
- Performs routine health checks over and above automated monitoring to ensure the quickest detection time for service affecting issues.
- Responds to any number of alarms, alerts, or abnormal behaviors detected through reactive or proactive monitoring.
- Ensures all activities are documented and tracked through a ticketing system.
- Ensures processes and procedures are documented and updated.
- Works with both internal and external teams to assist in escalated troubleshooting for issues relating to server infrastructure.
- Familiar with industry standard tools such N-Central, Auvik, VMWare, Azure, and Intune.
- Executes established procedures as it relates to incident, change and event management.
- Maintains appropriate expectations with internal teams as well as client stakeholders.
- Responsible for leading incident resolution situations including involving relevant internal resources and guiding all troubleshooting to resolution and keeping a journal of activities performed for any necessary post-incident review.
- Manages events and incidents from cradle to grave, providing initial troubleshooting and resolution while working with other teams or vendors as necessary to provide restoration.
- Provides training and coaching for technical resources both internal to the Infrastructure Operations team as well as other teams as necessary.
- Maintains a team-focused attitude and works towards creating a healthy, respectful atmosphere.
- Participates in the Infrastructure Operations continuous improvement activities as defined.
- Communicates in a concise, professional, and effective manner with both internal and external teams.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- Certifications such as MCSE, MCITP, CCNA/CCNP, and MCP are desired.
- Experience in roles demonstrating advanced expertise in network engineering design, installation, and support.
- Knowledge of Windows Server 2019/2016/2012, Office 365, and Azure platforms.
- Proficient in networking concepts, including configuration and troubleshooting of SD-WAN, VLANs, firewalls, switches, and overall infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Cisco product suites, such as Meraki, Stealthwatch, ACI, and Umbrella, is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, and WINS.
- Advanced proficiency with Windows 10/11 operating systems, the Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe products.
