Description

This position is responsible for overseeing the management, security, operation, and optimization of the Bellini College of AI, Cybersecurity and Computing’s AI-related computational infrastructure. The incumbent ensures operating system currency, data backup integrity, system security, and performance standards through advanced systems and network management tools.

Opened in 2025 and powered by a University of South Florida record $40 million gift from Arnie and Lauren Bellini, USF’s Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing is the first in Florida, and among the first in the nation, to unify AI, cybersecurity, and computing within a single college. More than 65 faculty members focus on cutting-edge research and educating 3,000+ bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students across 15 degree programs in computer science, cybersecurity, AI, information technology, and computer engineering. The college emphasizes industry-relevant education and experiential learning to prepare students for real-world challenges. It also serves as the central hub for AI and cybersecurity research and teaching at USF, collaborating with colleges and units across the university.

Hiring Range: $72,000* Dependent on experience 

 



Responsibilities
  • Using network/system management software, ensures that critical resources are monitored and measured to ensure optimization of computation, power and space resources. 
  • Using SEIM tools with in-house and cloud-based AI tools, ensures that systems administration resources are focused on areas of greatest need.
  • Perform annual software and security audits are required by the Bellini College, Central IT, USF internal audit or other organizations. 
  • Recommends new hardware; works with vendors to obtain quotes; Configures and installs new hardware and software; securely decommissions. 
  • Communicate with users about optimal ways to manage their workloads; able to speak intelligently about current configuration to current and prospective faculty and students; works closely with USF Central IT staff and IT staff from other units on joint projects.
  • Configure and maintain network hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, etc). 
  • Ensures and performs periodic tests on backups; ensures offsite backup rotations.
  • Understands and follows college and university policies regarding change control, security management, event reporting, etc. 


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training, or a Bachelor's degree with no specific required field and one year of IT related work experience, OR a combination of 5 years of IT related work experience and validated training. Preparation for a relevant IT certification, validated through certification requirements and documentation of completion, is considered to be related training

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

• SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
• A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
• (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
• (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
• (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Preferred Requirements

  • Network+ certification or similar industry certifications
  • Experience with monitoring and management of GPU-cluster systems
  • Experience with management and monitoring of Slurm batch system software
  • Experience with Zabbix network/systems management system
  • Experience with Graylog SIEM
