About the Frontend Chapter: 

The frontend chapter is the home of all JavaScript engineers at Policy Expert. We build and maintain the websites and associated services our customers use to purchase, manage and renew their insurance policies. We’re a group of 13 engineers spread across the business and we need an engineering manager who, alongside the Head of Frontend Engineering, will coordinate, mentor and lead us in delivering some of the most exciting projects in flight at Policy Expert right now. The engineering manager will manage up to six engineers across the frontend chapter. 

Your day to day: 

• Line manage 5–6 engineers, holding regular 121s and supporting career development following and improving the career progression framework. 
• Attend standups and provide clarity or direction where needed. 
• Work closely with the Head of Frontend Engineering to coordinate across the wider chapter. 
• Collaborate with Product, BAs, DMs and others to shape and scope work. 
• Make or support decisions on sequencing, resourcing, and implementation approach. 
• Identify and help resolve delivery or interpersonal blockers. 
• Maintain awareness of frontend technical decisions and share context as needed. 
• Promote consistent engineering practices through code reviews, mentoring or facilitation. 

Who are you: 

• Strong communication and people management. 
• Good judgement in balancing technical and delivery priorities. 
• Experience in modern frontend engineering (React, component libraries, tooling, etc.). 
• Ability to step back from code but zoom in when needed to support decisions.
